Spring holds its breath for just a moment — cherry blossoms still clinging to bare branches while the bell tower rises steady and white against a luminous sky.
Painted in transparent watercolor washes, this piece captures the fleeting overlap of seasons: the softness of bloom against the permanence of stone, light filtering through new leaves onto a winding path below.
This was the first completed painting of my Artist Residency at the Westfield Memorial Library — created entirely on-site during the spring of 2025. I was drawn to the way the blossoms and the bell tower seemed to exist in two different times at once, and I wanted to hold that feeling before it passed. It still stays with me.
