A single daffodil turns its face upward, its white petals catching the light while a fiery orange-red corona blazes at the center, a moment of quiet spring boldness.
Loose, expressive watercolor washes let the white of the paper breathe through the petals, while wet-into-wet strokes in the background suggest sky and foliage without competing with the bloom.
I painted this during one of my adult watercolor classes; it started as a demo and took on a life of its own. There's something about painting flowers close-up that forces you to really look, and this daffodil rewarded that attention.
A perfect piece for anyone who loves botanical subjects or wants a touch of spring energy in their home, equally at home in a kitchen, bedroom, or reading nook.
