Demo: Reflection of Sunset

The sky is on fire and the land holds its breath, warm gold and coral burning above while cool blue shadows settle across the hills, the trees, and a lone structure standing quiet in the valley below.

Broad wet washes build the drama of the sky, while reserved whites and soft blue tones in the foreground let the eye travel naturally from light to earth.

I painted this as a class demo, working quickly to show how a simple two-value approach can carry a whole landscape. The sunset did most of the work; I just tried to get out of its way.

A piece for anyone who loves the feeling of a countryside evening, the kind of light that only lasts a few minutes but stays with you much longer.
