Departure at Dawn continues my ongoing Steam in the ’40s series, capturing the quiet anticipation of early-morning rail travel. The locomotive emerges through rising steam and the first pale light of day, its silhouette pushing forward into the cool dawn. Soft washes, atmospheric edges, and reflective ground textures shape the mood, a moment suspended between night and morning, where motion and memory meet.
This piece reflects my fascination with mid-century railroading: the engineering, the drama, and the human stories carried along those tracks.
