Islands Study

The ocean pushes in against a rocky shoreline, white foam catching the last of the evening light while a wooded headland rises quietly in the distance, the kind of coast that feels both wild and familiar.

Loose washes of teal and blue build the movement of the water, while the reserved whites of the paper carry the energy of the breaking waves without overworking the surface.

I painted this as a class demo, working quickly to capture the push and pull of water against rock. Coastal scenes like this one remind me why I keep coming back to the water.
