Spring arrives quietly at Mindowaskin Park — the pond still, the fountain just waking, and the first blush of color pushing through the trees on either side of the old stone balustrade.
Loose, expressive watercolor washes capture the soft light and reflected color of early spring, with the classic lampposts framing the scene like a memory you didn't know you had.
This was one of the first paintings I made during my artist residency at Westfield Memorial Library, inspired by the beginning of spring at Mindowaskin Park just down the road. There's something about that first week of color after a long winter — the azaleas just opening, the water catching the light — that I had to get down on paper. It felt like the right way to begin.
A piece for the collector who loves a sense of place — perfect for anyone with a connection to Westfield, New Jersey, or anyone who knows the feeling of a park coming back to life in spring.
