About this painting

During my spring residency, I walked the shoreline at Cape May Point, returning again and again to the ghost tracks emerging from the sand. In Where the Rails Meet the Sea, those fragments of the old rail line stretch toward the surf, like something the landscape is trying to remember.

Soft coastal light, muted colors, and the gentle movement of the tide create a quiet meeting place between land, sea, and time. I wanted to hold that atmosphere, a small piece of the New Jersey shoreline for someone drawn to its history and changing beauty.
