Winter on the Mill Study

A brick mill stands alone at the edge of a frozen field, snow piled on its roof and drifted against its walls, while a pale winter sky stretches wide and quiet over the whole scene.

Soft, cool washes of blue and grey build the snow and sky in one breath, and the warm rose of the brick holds its own against all that winter white, a single note of warmth in a cold landscape.

I painted this as a study in economy, exploring how much a painting can say with very little. A building, some snow, a sky. The restraint is the point.

A piece for anyone who loves the stillness of a winter morning and the quiet dignity of old New England architecture, at home in a study, a hallway, or anywhere you want a moment of calm on the wall.
